Vacancy announcement

The Ghana Federation of the Disability Organisations (GFD) wishes to announce its search for an Advocacy Officer.

 Position information:

The position will be on contract for a period of one (1) year with the possibility of extension upon satisfactory performance and conduct.  The Officer will be responsible to the GFD in the discharge of his/her duties through the Executive Director.

Job Description:

The Advocacy Officer will;

1. Facilitate the engagement of the Advocacy Committee with government and non- state actors for inclusive policies, legislations and programmes that guarantee the well being of PWDs.

2. Lead the implementation of the Organisation’s advocacy strategy.

3. Facilitate monitoring of national policies, legislation and programme on disability inclusiveness.

4. Analyze and conduct regular policy mapping of relevant pro-poor policies for effective advocacy.

5. Work closely with the Advocacy Committee to promote and undertake advocacy activities.

6. Prepare periodic reports on national advocacy interventions and contribute to preparation of the annual report of GFD.

7. Identify  advocacy   needs/gaps   and   lead   the   development   of   advocacy interventions and strategies to address the gaps.

8. Undertake and develop training and training material in relation to advocacy.

9. Attend and participate in such meetings in the internal and external work environment as may be required for the efficient development of the advocacy programme and the Organisation.

Person Specification:

1. Must have  at  least  a  degree  in  the  Social  Sciences  or  related  relevant experiences.

2. Must have at least 4 years proven work experience in advocacy, programme development and management or related fields.

3. Be well organized and able to establish systematic documentation and data for effective advocacy initiative implementation and monitoring.

4. Have relevant skills in Information Technology applications particularly in planning, developing and administering databases and be familiar with the use of social media for advocacy.

5. Have a fair knowledge of disability issues,

6. Be gender sensitive.

7. Be trustworthy.

8. Be energetic, a team player and ready to work for long hours, with minimum or no supervision.

9. Be ready to travel outside duty post.
